Chrissy Martin, President and Founder


The Martin & Ulisse family dinners rich in Italian tradition, amazing food, conversations and the ever present bottle of Granpa Ulisse’s homemade wine are where the roots of passion Chrissy Martin has for her business began to grow.

In 2005 Chrissy founded Martin Ulisse Imports dedicating much of her time researching, organizing and planning how to bring wines to the USA from small farmers in other countries and to help promote their spectacular yet unappreciated wine. From her passionate efforts and pure determination the first shipment of wine arrived in September 2006, making her company the first wine importer in Corpus Christi.

Chrissy successfully guided her portfolio from that first shipment of just 3 wines to well over 40 in a relatively short period of time. Making the most of her organizational and managerial skills, she logged many miles here and abroad and spent countless hours on the phone and internet growing her business.

Coming from a family of successful entrepreneurs, Chrissy brings to her company a lifetime of learning, both professional and hands-on. Prior to launching her business, Chrissy received her MB in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Valdosta State University and a BS in Psychology with a minor in Human Development from Texas Tech University. During her undergraduate studies she also spent a semester at sea, through University of Pittsburgh, learning, understanding and visiting ten different countries, increasing her desire to become an importer. Chrissy has also done continuing education courses in Wine Spectator School, VinItalia Wine Conference, Italian Language, and Central Washington University World Wine Program among others.

Chrissy has lived, learned and embraces the motto “those who give much receive much”. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas –community involvement has been a constant in her life. She served on the boards of The Order of De’ Pineda, Junior League of Corpus Christi and does volunteer and fundraising work for the Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity and Gulf Coast Humane Society, just to name a few.

Lynn is thrilled to be part of the MUI team and family! She is Chrissy's sister and has worked in the Austin market for the last 4 years. When Lynn and her family moved from San Diego CA, Chrissy was looking for a sales rep to help build the Austin area. With her outgoing personality, business savvy and family passion, Lynn started selling Martin Ulisse wines to wonderful and unique wine bars, restaurants, catering companies and liquor stores throughout the Austin area. She really enjoys finding cool hip places that will compliment our wines as well as share in our passions.

This past August Lynn’s role in the company changed to include more marketing which she has really enjoyed. She is able to get more involved and help get the wines selling out in the marketplace in Austin as well as San Antonio!

Doan Shockley, National Brand Manager

Doan returned to his hometown of Corpus Christi in 2006 and after 2 years as Director of Restaurants for Stripes, where he oversaw almost 300 restaurants, he opened Shockley Market. Selected by Texas Monthly Magazine as one of the new and notable restaurants of 2010, Chef Doan was instrumental in bringing the farm to table movement to Corpus Christi. His commitment to local sourcing led to his relationship with Chrissy Martin. He sold the restaurant in 2011 and is delighted to share Chrissy’s passion for her family’s wines.

Doan holds degrees from both the Culinary Institute of America and the Conrad N. Hilton College where he spent 5 years as a chef instructor. He also attended Texas A&M where he studied Petroleum Engineering. He is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, where he studied Mandarin Chinese.

His professional experience includes working as Executive Chef at the Red Hook Inn in Red Hook, New York and the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Houston, Texas. He has been a Food and Beverage Manager for Bass Hotels. Doan also worked as General Manager for several restaurants including the Mandola family of restaurants in Houston.? He founded a company providing technology for restaurateurs and is proud to have served his country in the United States Navy.
